Past Continuous


The Past Continuous is used to express an activity happening over a period of time in the past.

          I. FORM
          Positive 
Subject + was / were + V-ing + ...
-----------------------------------
We, You, They were waiting.
I, He, She, It was waiting.
          Negative 
Subject + was / were + not + V-ing + ...
-----------------------------------
We, You, They were not waiting.
I, He, She, It was not waiting.
          Question
Was / Were + Subject + V-ing + ...?
-----------------------------------
Were we, you, they waiting?
Was I, he, she, it waiting?

          II. USE
          1. To express an activity happening over a period of time in the past.
                    - I was living in Japan in 1991. (I lived there from 1990 to 1993)




                    A : What were you doing at 7 o'clock last night?
                    B : I was driving home from work.
